Cybersecurity has become a key priority in today’s rapidly evolving digital landscape, especially for software developers. The CONSOLE project, an EU-funded initiative, aims to enhance security throughout the software development lifecycle, providing a unified platform with cutting-edge cybersecurity tools and services. University of Patras (UPAT) is proud to be a part of this ambitious endeavour, leveraging its rich history in education and innovation to contribute significantly to the project.
As one of Greece's leading academic institutions, the University of Patras plays two essential roles in the CONSOLE project:
UPAT will deliver key technical components to the platform, ensuring the training module is robust and comprehensive. With a legacy in education dating back to 1964, UPAT's commitment to teaching and training has always been at the forefront of its mission. The university's contribution will help to ensure that the platform not only meets technical standards but also provides users with the knowledge needed to maintain high-security standards.
SafeAmea: UPAT’s existing project, SafeAmea, has been selected as one of the pilot programs within CONSOLE. SafeAmea is an innovative online platform developed to support individuals with disabilities (ΑμεΑ in Greek), enabling them to register with local government services and ensuring special assistance in emergencies. The platform works by alerting authorities about the presence of people with disabilities who require specialized care during crises. The system is designed for municipalities across Greece, with pilot implementations in the cities of Patras and Chalkida.
SafeAmea serves as a vital tool for integrating individuals with disabilities into emergency response plans. Through this platform, individuals, disability organisations, and emergency services are connected under the municipal social service framework. Certified users from emergency services gain access to critical information, such as the location and specific needs of disabled persons, ensuring a swift and appropriate response during emergencies.
The platform has the potential to reshape municipal policy by offering data on the distribution of individuals with disabilities within a city, helping authorities make informed decisions about resource allocation and emergency planning. Additionally, SafeAmea fosters collaboration between local disability associations and public services, making it easier for disabled citizens to access emergency support when they need it the most.
The University of Patras and the Municipality of Patras have worked closely on this initiative, which reflects UPAT’s commitment to societal well-being through digital innovation. As part of the CONSOLE project, SafeAmea will demonstrate how cybersecurity and public safety can go hand-in-hand, protecting sensitive personal data while ensuring life-saving support in critical situations.
The University of Patras’ contributions to the CONSOLE project represent its commitment to advancing cybersecurity education and developing innovative solutions for real-world challenges. By combining its technical expertise and pioneering projects like SafeAmea, UPAT is helping to shape a more secure, inclusive, and resilient digital future for Europe.
